Covid-19 vaccination and the recognition of certificates
At their meeting on 8 September 2021, the Federal Council sent a proposal for consultation. The Swiss Covid certificate is now also to be issued to people living in Switzerland or to people entering the country who have been vaccinated abroad with a vaccine approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
The Federal Council took up the concern of many Swiss Abroad at its meeting on 8 September 2021 and sent a proposal for consultation. Currently, only certificates from countries taking part in the EU Digital Covid Certificate are recognised in Switzerland. The Swiss Covid certificate is now also to be issued to people who are resident in Switzerland or who are entering the country and who have been vaccinated abroad with a vaccine approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
Each canton should designate a point of contact where people vaccinated abroad can obtain information, and these points of contact should be listed on the Confederation's website.
However, not all vaccination production sites are equally recognised by the EMA. And similar to neighbouring countries, the certificate is not to be extended to all WHO approved vaccines.
The Organisation of the Swiss Abroad continues to plead for EMA-approved vaccines to be accepted by more production sites, as well as for WHO-approved vaccines to be recognised for the issuance of a Swiss Covid certificate.
